This tool decodes each frame, enlarges it, and re-encodes a new animated GIF, entirely in your browser.

What Is GIF Enlarger?

A client-side tool that enlarges every frame of an animated GIF, in one of two modes: a percentage scale factor from 100% (unchanged) up to 1000% (10x bigger), applied to both width and height, or an exact target width and height.

Both modes use nearest-neighbor resampling, honestly documented rather than presented as any kind of smart or AI-driven upscaling.

How GIF Enlarger Works

In percentage mode, the tool multiplies each frame's width and height by the chosen scale factor and resamples to that new size. In dimensions mode, it resamples directly to the exact width/height you provide, after checking they're at least as large as the source.

Either way, nearest-neighbor resampling copies each output pixel's color from its closest corresponding source pixel, run identically per decoded frame so every re-encoded frame ends up the same target size.

When To Use GIF Enlarger

Use percentage mode when you think in relative terms, like "make this twice as big."

Use dimensions mode when you need an exact final pixel size, like matching a specific banner or display area.

  • For a quick, common multiplier (2x, 3x, 4x, etc.) with a one-click UI, consider gif-upscaler instead of typing an exact percentage.
  • If you need an exact pixel size regardless of the source's proportions, use dimensions mode rather than calculating a percentage by hand.
  • Preview the result at your target size before downloading, since nearest-neighbor enlargement can look noticeably blocky at high scale factors.

Developer Notes

enlargeGif in gif-enlarger.ts wraps the shared resizeNearest helper in two modes (percent vs. exact dimensions), both applied per decoded GIF frame via transformGifFrames. Dimensions mode validates that the requested size is at least as large as each frame's own source dimensions (read from the per-frame context) before resampling, so it can't be used to accidentally shrink.
