What Is GIF Grayscale Converter?

A client-side grayscale conversion tool that turns every decoded frame's colored pixels into gray, using either a perceptual luminance formula or a simple RGB average.

It mirrors the PNG category's grayscale converter exactly, applied independently to each frame of an animated GIF.

How GIF Grayscale Converter Works

Every frame is decoded into an RGBA pixel buffer, and each pixel's gray value is computed with the chosen method: luminance (0.299R + 0.587G + 0.114B) or a plain average of the three channels.

That single gray value is written back into all three RGB channels (so R, G, and B end up equal), alpha is left untouched, and all frames are re-encoded into a new animated GIF.

When To Use GIF Grayscale Converter

Use it to create a classic black-and-white-movie style version of a colorful animation while keeping its shading and gradients intact.
