This tool converts a JPG or JPEG image into a genuine single-frame GIF file, entirely in your browser, using a hand-written GIF89a encoder rather than relying on any server-side conversion service.
Because GIF only supports a 256-color palette, colors are quantized before encoding, which is the main visible trade-off versus the source JPEG.
What Is JPG to GIF Converter?
A client-side JPG-to-GIF converter that decodes an uploaded JPEG into raw pixel data, quantizes each pixel's color to the nearest of 216 colors in a uniform 6x6x6 color cube, then LZW-compresses the resulting index stream into a valid GIF89a file byte-by-byte.
The encoder is a from-scratch implementation of the GIF format's header, color table, and compression scheme, not a wrapper around a browser API, since browsers don't natively encode GIF.
How JPG to GIF Converter Works
After the browser decodes the JPEG into RGBA pixels, each pixel's red, green, and blue channels are independently rounded to the nearest of 6 evenly-spaced levels, producing a 216-color palette that covers the full color cube reasonably evenly.
The resulting stream of palette indices is then compressed with the standard LZW algorithm GIF requires and wrapped in the format's header, global color table, image descriptor, and trailer bytes to produce a spec-compliant file.

convertJpgToGif is adapted from this site's PNG-to-GIF encoder, with the transparency-index and Graphics Control Extension bookkeeping removed entirely, since a decoded JPEG has no alpha channel to preserve: every one of the 256 palette slots goes toward color fidelity instead of reserving one for a transparent index.
